Michelle Golias was born in Cleveland Ohio and has lived in New York City for over 30 years. Much of that time has been spent studying figure and portrait painting at the Art Students League and School of Visual Arts.
Michelle started painting landscapes in Rockport, Massachusettes and returned there to paint for many summers. Painting the New England landscape has become a regular part of city living and communing with nature.
Though much of her work is done in the studio, plein air painting has always a great part of her inspiration.
Painting from life is an amazing experience and has opened up my powers of observation and appreciation for the beauty of nature. This experience has also helped my brushwork and the ability to translate what I see onto the canvas .
One of my goals as an artist is to relate a higher sense of consciousness to the viewer thru my paintings. Whether the concept is color, mood or atmosphere the theme of the painting and the artist have a dialogue that continues on to connect the viewers attention. A painting can be purely decorative or sentimental, perhaps bringing us to a more peaceful place of mind. A painting can totally change the energy of an environment. Art can be a tranquil beauty enhancing our lives.
In 2004 Michelle was awarded a residency in Dinan, France from Les Amis de la Grande Vigne. One of her paintings was chosen for the collection and will be in special exhibits a the Chateau Museum. Michelle exhibits her work in Massachusetts, New Jersey and Long Island, New York. Her work is also in many private collections here and abroad.
Michelle is a life member of the Art Students League and is a member of the Artist Circle in New York.
