Florals and stilllife

When Painting Florals and still life  I always work from life.
There is a quiet meditative experience when observing nature whether I am painting a beautiful bouquet or a bunch of grapes. Focusing on the shapes color and value of the subject matter can give me hours of enjoyment. When I am painting a still life I feel so greatful to be an artist, to be able to observe the beauty in nature with such joy. I get to 'stop and smell the roses' so to speak.

Landscapes

I love painting landscapes, I work en plein air, which is on location, directly from nature. I also do a lot of studio work with these subjects, sometimes from smaller paintings done on loction, and from sketches or photos, the possibilities are endless.
Some of the paintngs I do on location tend to be more specific they are more about a real place and time, my studio paintings are often more about the mood or the feeling of a place. I often try to simplify these paintings so I'm really thinking about more abstract shapes and simplicity. It amazes me how in painting realisticly the more abstract I think, the better.

Figure and Portraits

I love painting the figure, I prefer working from life though I often work from photos as well, when a model is not available.
People have such busy scheduals, but even when doing portraits I like to have some of the sittings from life, choosing a pose, sketches and taking photos helps me get a feeling for the painting. I can do some of the work in the studio as well. It often depends on the subject and size of the painting, if I will need multiple sittings from life, or if most of the work can be done from photos.
Please contact me for information regarding portrait commisions.

Caricatures and Portraits

These drawings and caricatures are another example of the variety of creative expression my work takes.
I spent many years studying anatomy and drawing and painting from a live model.
I have been doing some quick sketch portraitsand caricatures for parties and events, they're done so quickly I feel very intuitive when working this way.
I also love doing more finished and modeled  portraits.  There is a very meditative quality of focus and concentration one needs, to getting a likeness and a feeling about the person being drawn.

Watercolor, pastel, monotype, and mixed media. These works come in a wide variety and can range fromstudies to experiments with  several different mediums. The medium I use most is oils but its nice to explore the use of other mediums to shift my focus  and be mindful.
I've also include some mixed media mandala pieces in this collection.

Contemporary

These paintings are about color, design and inspirations from nature or my surroundings in the city.  I've even abstracted sections of mandala paintings. Some of theses paintings are the pure expression of what the paint can do and others are purely decorative.
